Plagiarism Policy

Leadership in Muslim Societies maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism, and any detected cases will result in immediate rejection or retraction of published articles.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes but is not limited to:

  • Verbatim copying without quotation marks and proper citation.
  • Substantial copying of ideas, data, or text without attribution.
  • Paraphrasing without proper acknowledgment.
  • Self-plagiarism without disclosure of previous publication.
  • Translation plagiarism from other languages.
  • Unauthorized use of others' research data.

Types of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes but is not limited to:

  • Complete plagiarism: submitting another author's work as one's own.
  • Direct plagiarism: copying portions of text without attribution.
  • Paraphrasing plagiarism: rewriting others' work without proper citation.
  • Self-plagiarism: reusing one's own previously published work without disclosure.
  • Mosaic plagiarism: combining phrases from multiple sources without attribution.
  • Accidental plagiarism: Unintentional failure to properly cite sources.

Plagiarism Detection

All manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening using:

  • Turnitin similarity check software.
  • Manual review by editors and reviewers.
  • Cross-reference with published literature.
  • Multiple checkpoints throughout the review process.

Similarity Thresholds

  • Below 15%: Generally acceptable with proper citation.
  • 15-25%: Requires review and justification.
  • Above 25%: Typically rejected or major revision required.
  • Any unattributed text: Immediate rejection.

Author Responsibilities

  • Ensure all sources are properly cited.

Procedures for Handling Plagiarism

Before Publication

  1. Manuscript flagged by similarity check.
  2. Editorial assessment of plagiarism level.
  3. Notification to the corresponding author.
  4. Author response requested within 14 days.
  5. Decision: Reject, revise, or proceed.

After Publication

  1. Investigation of plagiarism allegation.
  2. Notification to all authors.
  3. Temporary removal during investigation.
  4. Retraction if plagiarism is confirmed.
  5. Notification to authors' institutions.

Consequences of Plagiarism

For Submitted Manuscripts

  • Immediate rejection.
  • Notification to all authors.
  • Blacklisting of authors for 2-5 years.
  • Notification to authors' institutions.

For Published Articles

  • Immediate retraction.
  • Retraction notice published.
  • Metadata updated in databases.
  • Permanent blacklisting of authors.
  • Legal action in severe cases.

Self-Plagiarism Policy

Authors may reuse their previous work under these conditions:

  • Disclose previous publications in the cover letter.
  • Cite previous work appropriately.
  • Ensure the new manuscript provides a substantial new contribution.
  • Obtain permission from previous publishers if required.
  • Limit overlap to necessary methodological descriptions.

Preventing Plagiarism
