Focus and Scope
Islamic Law and Social Issues in Society (ILSIIS) focuses on the intersection between Islamic law and contemporary social issues in Muslim and plural societies. It aims to advance innovative, comparative, and interdisciplinary research that connects Islamic jurisprudence with real-world social change, positioning Sharia as a living and transformative system for addressing contemporary challenges in justice, economics, governance, sustainability, and human development.
It covers a range of subjects, including in-depth studies of:
- Social Justice and Governance – The role of Islamic law in promoting equality, human rights, and good governance.
- Law, Culture, and Religion – Interaction between Sharia, ʿurf, and state law in shaping moral and socio-cultural change.
- Digital and Economic Transformation – Islamic legal perspectives on zakat, fintech, cyber law, and AI ethics.
- Environmental and Global Ethics – Fiqh al-bīʿah, sustainability, and the inclusion of environmental ethics in maqāṣid al-sharīʿah.
