Journal History

Customary Law Review was established in 2026 by CV Jambi Tuah Tengganai as part of its academic journal network hosted at ejournal.tuah.or.id. The journal was founded in response to a gap in the publishing landscape. Research on adat, indigenous legal orders, and living fiqh has long been scattered across anthropology and Islamic studies outlets, and few journals treat customary normativity as their primary object of analysis.

The inaugural issue, Volume 1 Number 1, was published in June 2026. From its first issue the journal has applied double-blind peer review and published in English so that research from Indonesia and the wider Global South can enter international scholarly conversations. The journal aims to meet the standards of major national and international indexing services in the coming years.
